Hello and Welcome to Life’s Little Treasures!
This is where I tuck away some of those interesting, unusual, funny, nostalgic, and sometimes forgotten pieces of life. You never quite know what little treasure you may discover here.
From old-time sayings and folk lore to holiday history, family traditions, memories, interesting facts, and things that are simply worth knowing, this is a place to slow down for a few minutes. Here you can take a look at some of the things that have helped shape our lives and our culture.
Some treasures may make you laugh. Others may bring back a memory you haven’t thought about in years. And every now and then, you may learn something that makes you stop and say, “Well, I didn’t know that!”
That’s exactly what I hope happens here.
Life’s Little Treasures, Folk Lore, and a Little Wisdom Thrown In
I just loved sitting around with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. Why? Well, they had stories to tell, words of truth, and a whole lot of history to pass around.
Back then, I didn’t realize just how valuable those conversations were.
When you’re young, sitting around listening to older folks tell stories can seem like work—or even somewhat boring. You have places to go, things to do, and a whole world waiting for you. You don’t always realize that the people sitting around the table with you are carrying pieces of history that you may never hear again.
Now that I am older, I understand something I didn’t understand then:
We learn by listening just as much as we learn by doing.
I wish I had listened to a few more of those stories. I wish I had asked more questions. I wish I had written some of those sayings and family stories down before they became memories that only a few people could remember.
After all, life has a funny way of repeating itself.
Those little pieces of wisdom that I may have rolled my eyes at years ago now make a great deal more sense to me today!
Why I Created This Little Corner
Life’s Little Treasures is my way of collecting some of those pieces before they disappear.
Some things are useful. Some are simply intriguing. Some are funny. And some may seem completely unnecessary—until one day you need to know them!
I have always enjoyed learning about the “why” behind things. Why do we celebrate certain holidays the way we do? Where did an old saying come from? Why did our grandparents do things a certain way? How did a particular tradition begin? And why do some expressions seem to have been around forever?
Sometimes the answers are surprisingly fascinating.
Other times, the answer may simply be a good story.
And I’m perfectly happy with that!
Where and How I Chose My Information for This Category
Of course, I found some information while researching on the internet. But as I began digging into different subjects, I realized something interesting.
A lot of it wasn’t really new to me.
I had either done it, read about it, heard someone talk about it, or remembered someone in my family telling me about it years ago. Some of the trivia and information also came from books, articles, conversations, and other things I have come across throughout my life.
That is one of the fun things about getting older. You suddenly realize that some of the things you thought were ordinary pieces of everyday life were actually little pieces of history.
So I sat down, made some notes, followed a few interesting rabbit trails, and decided it was time to share some of these things with you.
I don’t claim to know everything—and goodness knows, I don’t!
But I do enjoy learning, remembering, researching, and sharing. That is what I do as a Performance Blogger. Go check out how I got started.
A Few Things May Make You Wonder
Now, I know some folks won’t care a hill of beans about some of this—and that’s another great old saying!
And that’s perfectly okay.
You may skip a particular page because the subject doesn’t interest you. You may read something and think, “Well, that’s nice, but I already knew that.” Or you may discover something that sends you down your own little rabbit hole of research.
That’s part of the fun.
My hope is that every once in a while, something here will make you stop and think.
Maybe it will remind you of your grandmother.
Maybe you’ll remember something your dad used to say.
Maybe you’ll recognize a tradition your family still practices today.
Or perhaps you’ll discover that something you thought was just an old-fashioned saying actually has a pretty interesting story behind it.
Take Your Time and Look Around
Life’s Little Treasures isn’t meant to be rushed.
Think of it as one of those old-fashioned kitchen tables where people could sit down, have a cup of coffee, tell a story, share a laugh, and maybe learn something along the way.
You’ll find a little bit of this and a little bit of that here. Folklore, old sayings, history, traditions, holidays, nostalgia, interesting facts, and bits of wisdom may all find their way into this corner of Life Unboxed with ArmieG.
Some treasures will be useful.
Some will be silly.
Some may bring back memories.
And some may simply make you curious.
That’s enough for me.
So come on in, take a look around, and see what you discover. You never know when one little fact, forgotten tradition, funny saying, or old piece of wisdom might bring back a memory or teach you something new.
After all, sometimes the smallest things in life turn out to be the biggest treasures.
Welcome to Life’s Little Treasures. It is Simply Armie remembering!
