Welcome to Cooking, Food and Wine, where we can talk about recipes, cooking ideas, entertaining, seasonal foods, tailgating, holiday traditions, wine, and all those little things that make sharing a meal so much fun. There is just something about food that brings people together.
It doesn’t matter if you are cooking a big holiday meal, putting together a quick weeknight dinner, grilling burgers in the backyard, preparing food for a football game, or simply sitting around the kitchen table with family and friends. Food has a way of bringing people together.
Cooking, Food and Wine: Good Food, Good Times and Making Memories
And around here, we believe good food doesn’t have to be complicated!
This isn’t about being a professional chef or putting on a fancy dinner party. In my world, entertaining can be as simple as saying, “Y’all come over, and we’ll fix some hot dogs, watch a movie, or play cards.”
That’s my kind of good time!
Cooking Is About More Than Recipes
Of course, recipes are important. We all need something to tell us what ingredients to put together and what to do with them.
But cooking is also about memories.
Maybe you have a recipe that has been passed down through your family. Maybe there is a particular dish that reminds you of your childhood. Or perhaps you have created your own favorite recipe over the years by changing a little of this and adding a little of that.
Sometimes the best recipes aren’t written down at all.
They are the ones we learned by watching someone else.
This category is a place to explore those kinds of ideas and discover new ones along the way.
Holiday Cooking and Seasonal Favorites
The holidays give us plenty of reasons to get into the kitchen.
From Thanksgiving and Christmas to Easter, birthdays, family gatherings, and other celebrations, food is often right in the middle of the occasion.
We’ll explore ideas for seasonal cooking, holiday recipes, favorite dishes, desserts, appetizers, and ways to make preparing food a little less stressful.
And let’s not forget those leftovers!
Sometimes figuring out what to do with yesterday’s dinner can be just as much fun as making the original meal.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s enjoying the process and creating something people will enjoy sharing.
Food for Entertaining and Good Times
You don’t have to throw a formal dinner party to entertain.
Sometimes entertaining means putting a pot of something good on the stove and inviting your friends over. Sometimes it means burgers on the grill. Other times it might be sandwiches, snacks, chili, pizza, or a table full of appetizers.
It can be a family movie night, a card game, a backyard gathering, or simply friends sitting around talking.
Good food and good company don’t require a fancy occasion.
Our Food Entertaining and Good Times ideas will focus on simple ways to bring people together without making entertaining feel like a lot of work.
Because nobody wants to spend the entire party stuck in the kitchen!
Tailgating, Football and Food
And then there is football!
When football season rolls around, you can bet somebody is going to start asking the most important question:
“What are we going to eat?”
Tailgating food doesn’t have to be complicated. Finger foods, dips, sandwiches, wings, burgers, hot dogs, chips, desserts, and other easy-to-share foods can make game day even more enjoyable.
Whether you are actually tailgating at the stadium, watching the game at home, or gathering with friends, this is a great time to enjoy food, football, and fellowship.
And yes, sometimes the food gets as much attention as the game! See more at Food, Football, Family, and Amazing Fall Traditions.
Wine: Learning and Enjoying
Wine is another part of the food and entertaining experience that can be fun to explore. You don’t have to be a wine expert to enjoy learning about it. Did you know that Wine can be beneficial for your body when used in moderation? However, there is a way to get the benefits without the alcohol. Read more on that here: Benefits of Wine in Gel Form.
There are reds, whites, rosés, sparkling wines, and many different varieties and styles. Some wines pair beautifully with certain foods, while others may simply be your personal favorite.
We’ll have opportunities to learn more about wine in a simple, easy-to-understand way.
What is the difference between a red and a white? What foods pair well with different wines? How do you choose a wine when you aren’t sure what to buy?
These are the kinds of questions we can explore without making wine sound complicated or intimidating.
Sometimes learning something new is half the fun.
Recipes Worth Sharing
One of the best things about food is sharing what we discover.
A recipe that works beautifully for your family might become someone else’s new favorite. A cooking shortcut might save someone time. A simple entertaining idea might give another family the inspiration to invite friends over.
That’s what makes a community so special.
We can share ideas, learn from one another, and perhaps even discover a few new favorites along the way.
Simple Food. Good Company. Great Memories.
The Cooking, Food and Wine category is really about more than food.
It’s about the memories we make around the table.
It’s about family recipes, new recipes, old traditions, trying something different, enjoying the seasons, watching football, having friends over, celebrating holidays, and sometimes just enjoying a quiet meal at home.
You don’t have to be a gourmet cook. You don’t have to own every kitchen gadget. And you certainly don’t have to spend a fortune.
Sometimes the simplest meals are the ones everybody remembers. So grab your favorite recipe, pull up a chair, and come on in. There is always room for one more at our table!
